Surfers Paradise NIPPERS

Surf Safe your child by joining Australia’s most iconic Surf Club and leading Surf Safety Program!

Our Nipper program is focused on learning, gaining confidence and most importantly having fun in a safe beach environment.  The skills gained at Nippers will stick to the soul, like sand from the beach and will be carried for life.  Children will learn how to identify dangers on the beach and most importantly how to keep themselves safe.

Children must be a minimum of 5 years old (Under 6) and up to a maximum of 13 years old (Under 14) to participate in the program.  The Sunday program provides a controlled environment for children to enjoy swimming, board paddling, wading, beach sprints and flags.

Lifesaving is something for the whole family to get involved in and there are many supporting roles that you can play as a parent of a child involved in Junior Activities.

Please note that there have been changes to the swim proficiencies for the upcoming season. In order to ensure that all members are up-to-date and aware of these changes, it is crucial for ALL members to attend these sign-on days. We want to ensure that everyone is well-prepared and ready for the exciting season ahead.

Is Nippers a good place for my child to learn to swim

No, Nippers is not a learn-to-swim organisation. Your child needs some reasonable swimming skills to be able to take part in Nippers each week. We recommend that you enrol your child in a swim school to learn basic swimming skills prior to joining Nippers.

Please CLICK HERE to find out the swimming requirements to become a nipper.

Do friends/grandparents need to be members to bring children to nippers

Yes they should be members to attend any club related activities.

If you are a single parent family you can join up a grandparent, nanny or other caregiver as part of your family membership at no additional charge (family membership structure includes up to 2 parents/guardians/caregivers). If you wish to sign up an additional (i.e. third) adult family member or carer this will be at an additional cost

Can I leave the beach while my children are participating in Nippers

No. It is a requirement of participation in the program that a parent or caregiver is on the beach at all times while their child is signed on at Nippers. It is an expectation that parents get involved in helping at Nippers each week, whether it is as a water safety officer, helping set up or cook the BBQ or assisting with beach set up/pack down.
